The Story Behind The Song
Years ago, I taught guitar lessons to inspired local music students. I would drive from house to house in local neighborhoods teaching up to 5 students each afternoon and then head off to my evening local gigs. One day, I entered a lesson from my student who was only about 12 years old. He was so excited to perform something for me that he had been working on that week. To my surprise, he played the guitar solo from my song, “You Got Me.”
It was in that moment that I remembered what it felt like as a child to want to be able to play a song I heard on the radio. There were so many guitar legends that I heard and wasn’t yet good enough to play the guitar parts I heard. So I decided to sit down and really write a guitar part to a song that would be challenging enough for a student to learn, but also easy enough for a listener to enjoy. This song was honestly one of the most thrilling guitar driven jams that I have written yet.
I remember recording the crunchy guitars and shredding solos and feeling really great about it. I remember working out all the drum patterns that would drive the pace of the song. I remember imagining playing the bass part on stage at Shoreline Ampitheater, even thought I was just recording it in a small recording space with dim lighting. I had dreams of crowds singing and dancing to this song, guitar players and musicians wanting to learn how to play all the parts, and I needed to bring this one to life.
After finalizing the recording in my bedroom closet, I sent the tracks off to a professional studio. With the recommendation of friends in the music industry, I connected with The Rukkus Room in Nashville, TN. Jamie Tate is one of the best around. He made this song larger than life. The sound he was able to dial in is way bigger than I ever expected from the small space this was recorded.
The tracks were mixed, mastered, and quickly returned to me in just a few days. In the meantime, I had a terrific idea for a music video. The theme of the video is making the most out of every moment! The team formed with Charlie, Austin, and Courtney, and was supported by Chabby and Club Fox in Redwood City. Now we are all pedal to the metal to get this sound out to all the ears of my fans, family, and friends. I am so honored to share this new song with all of you and hope this song will be as fun for you as it was for me to create.
